Our Story
Emergent’s founding partners shared a passion for excellent coffee and sustainable farming. We discovered significant imbalances in smallholder coffee farmers’ compensation and opportunity through existing connections to other Ugandan soft commodities. This journey began with our shared belief that every coffee farmer should have equal access to opportunity. Ugandan specialty Robusta crops are rapidly becoming the best globally, and we are excited to facilitate its growth.
We Are Mission Driven
We believe that every coffee farmer should have equal access to opportunity. Ugandan smallholder coffee farmers have neither the financial nor the social means to obtain certifications or partnerships. Our efforts have a major impact on coffee-producing communities in Uganda. We pay our farmers above spot prices, provide them support for future harvests, and set aside 10% of our profits to assist rural development efforts.

Unlike legacy importers, Emergent Coffee follows a lean startup methodology that minimizes unnecessary expenses and inefficiencies at every step of the supply chain. We move faster, lower prices, and give back more.
On-the-Ground Relationships
We source our coffee directly from a hand-picked collection of smallholder farms. Our on-the-ground team in Uganda gives us unprecedented access to local operations and governance.
Direct Trade
Our coffee does not change hands multiple times before it reaches you. Our direct trade allows us to support our farmers with education and quality farm inputs to continually improve the quality of our beans.
