Uganda Farmer Programs
Emergent has founded several on-the-ground initiatives for Ugandan farmers and actively partnered with local businesses and government agencies to broaden smallholder farmers.
We are always open to new partnerships that align with our core values. If you have a partnership opportunity, please feel free to reach out and contact us.

Free organic fertilizer distribution to
partner farmers
We have partnered with PNR Farms Africa LTD., which is the largest commercial pork farm in Uganda. Our team collects the manure weekly from their farm in Lugazi and distributes it to our partner coffee farms for free when they need it. Our goal is to support our partners with quality inputs to reduce certain expenses and keep their cultivations sustainable.
Details
- Formed partnership with PNR Farms Africa LTD. in August 2020
- Supply 100 tonnes of manure to over 300 farms for now with plans to supply more in the future

Farmer education
We have initiated a skill development program for coffee farmers that the PNR Foundation partly sponsors. We worked with officials in the Ugandan Coffee Development Authority (UCDA) to design a training program. With the help of the UCDA and PNR Foundation, we hired representatives who could run these programs at various partner farms.
Details
- We developed the program using many ideas from the UCDA’s Robusta Coffee Handbook.
- We launched this initiative in April 2021.
- This program is still in the pilot phase with only 35 partner farmers; we plan to expand our reach beginning in October

Organic certifications for partners
We are currently working with individuals in the Ministry of Agriculture and the UCDA to get partner coffee farms certified organic. At present, most smallholder coffee farmers have cultivations that are organic by default. They do not use any inorganic inputs in their production. Despite this, they cannot get certified organic due to the high costs and bureaucracy associated with the certification process.
Details
- Certifications for a majority of our partner farms are in the final stages and will be officially registered with the UCDA by the end of September, 2021.
- Roughly 450 partner farms are on track to be certified organic by the Ugandan government during phase 1.
